Credo che l’amicizia e la grande passione per le auto non abbia confini. Questa volta la nostra avventura ci porta in qualche modo negli U.S.A. perché oggi siamo ospiti dei nostri amici americani all’interno della base militare Camp Ederle di Vicenza per un raduno segreto di auto sportive. Siamo di ritorno da Verona e pensiamo bene di contattare il nostro amico Jaems per lanciare l’idea di raduno lampo in qualche zona in giro per la città, mai ci saremo aspettati tanto entusiasmo ma soprattutto un invito proprio dentro alla base militare americana! Appuntamento nel tardo pomeriggio presso un autolavaggio di Vicenza dove troviamo Jaems che sta pulendo la sua meravigliosa BMW M3 bianca, la stessa che avevamo fotografato durante un una delle sue sbandate sui tornati del Dolomites Street VIII; l’auto di Jaems è davvero pazzesca con un’estetica superba e un motore dal sound cupo e minaccioso. Quattro chiacchere tra amici e subito un giro di messaggi al resto del gruppo che ci conferma la sua disponibilità. Non vi nascondo che entrare in una base militare con certi mezzi non proprio convenzionali mi desta un po’ di preoccupazione: non vorrei iniziare l’anno dietro le sbarre per lo più di una cella americana. Jaems ci fa cenno di seguirlo ed arrivati in base veniamo bloccati al check point, qui l’auto viene controllata accuratamente e noi registrati come visitatori: ce l’abbiamo fatta, siamo dentro! Varcati i cancelli ci rendiamo conto che qui, se non fosse per i cartelli stradali italiani, sembra di essere davvero negli U.S.A. L’M3 ci fa strada senza non poche difficoltà in quanto il suo assetto super ribassato gli crea non pochi problemi a causa dei numerosissimi dissuasori lungo il percorso che la costringono a continui zig-zag; guardo nello specchietto e vedo dietro di noi accodarsi la Skyline GT-R R32 grigia di Carlos che effettua gli stessi zig-zag sulla strada: muoversi qui con queste auto è davvero difficoltoso. Finalmente raggiungiamo un parcheggio dove aspettare anche gli altri ragazzi che non tardano ad arrivare. Una bellissima Corvette Bianca e Nera con l’illuminazione colorata sotto la scocca ci raggiunge: è Shawn con la sua bellissima C7 con il suo V8 americano elaborato all’esasperazione, che non si fa pregare per aprire il cofano e farci vedere e sentire tutto quel ben di Dio! Ben presto il buio della sera scende su di noi e sul piazzale illuminato arrivano anche Don con la Skyline bianca GTS-T R33 e Patt con una SCION FR-S bianca; a chiudere una meravigliosa BMW M2. Le luci della sera si mescolano con quelle dei fari accesi creando un’atmosfera quasi magica, una foto di gruppo e poi tutti al Bowling Arena per un hamburger e una Coca made in U.S.A. Esperienza bellissima quella con i ragazzi della base di Ederle di Vicenza che salutiamo calorosamente dandoci appuntamento a prestissimo per un altro U.S. ARMY TOP SECRET RADUNO.

WELCOME TO THE USA: Meeting with the ARMY.

We believe that friendship and passion for cars does not have borders, age or colors. This time our adventure brings us somehow in the USA, because today we’re guests of our American friends at Camp Ederle Military Base in Vicenza for a secret sport cars photoshoot. Everything starts in the late afternoon, while driving back from Verona to Treviso, we decide to call our friend Jaems to organize the last-minute shooting, all his friends accept immediately, glad of having their wonders immortalized despite the little notice. Then, unexpectedly, they give us a chance that we cannot pass up, an invitation to enter the Vicenza Ederle’s military base! We meet Jaems at the car wash while he’s cleaning up his white BMW M3. An amazing car, with a superb aesthetic and a dark, threatening sound, that we have seen a few months ago, while blasting the mountains at Dolomites Streets VIII. He’s tuning his car, the big rims with red details, spoilers, air suspensions, exhaust system and many other things you will notice in the photos. We talk a bit, then he calls some of his friends... The photoshoot is confirmed! I cannot lie, entering a military base with such unconventional vehicles, gives me some concern, let’s hope the guards at the gate will not throw us behind the bars! We stop at the checkpoint; the guards check our car and our IDs. We made it, we are in! Behind the gates, everything smells like USA, like freedom, as Italians, it feels like being in a completely different world. Jaems gives us a little tour around the base to find the perfect spot, I must say it was such a big deal driving low cars on those high speed bump all along the way. Looking at the driving mirror, I see a grey Skyline GT-R R32.. it’s Carlos! His R32 faces the same problem of the M3 on the speed bumps. After 10 minutes of tour, we find a very good spot in front of the Health Care Center, we decide to do the photoshoot there. An amazing white Corvette C7 with under chassis lighting is already waiting for our cameras: It’s Shawn, proudly driving that American symbol tuned V8, he opens the hood for us and explains to us all the tuning that he has made on his baby. We couldn’t help embracing the vibrant sound.  Sunlight is almost gone when we spot a few cars parked close to us: It’s Don with his Skyline GTS-T R33, and Patt with a Scion FR-S and last but not least an amazing BMW M2. We start shooting in the parking, luckily the white LED illumination system is excellent, and allows us to take some long exposure pictures of the cars, also letting us try a new photographic technique: we illuminate the details of the R32 with a landing light (thanks to Jaems’ idea). I must say, I really appreciate to be with other huge car lovers like us, talking about Japanese, American and European cars. As I already said, this proves to me that motorsport does not have barriers of any kind; we are like a big worldwide family. Evening’s shadows mix up with the artificial lights; we decide to go eating at “The Arena”, a bowling themed fast food, to have a Cheeseburger and a Coke. What you have just read is a great experience with the guys from Ederle’s base, that we heartily greet, adventure that we promise to repeat again in the next ARMY RADUNO.
